Volunteer Application

Volunteering for the inaugural The Tour of America will be a unique opportunity to get close to the action as well as become part of history. This is a great way to get involved in cycling and help create a safe and enjoyable environment for the riders and spectators. All volunteers will receive complimentary t-shirts or caps as well as identification badges.

There are two categories of volunteer opportunities available: Long Term and Race Day.

Event Volunteer: Event volunteers engage in a commitment of 3 to 10 months. You will work directly with volunteer coordinators and interns in your local community by recruiting volunteers and doing advance work or other tasks. Training will be provided.
Captains: To lead teams for the whole organizational process. Various tasks will entail a commitment of 3 to 10 months.
Media: Work with local and national media prior to the race.
Fiesta: Assist in organizing the Fiesta Festival prior to the race.
City Liaison: Helping the cities with anything that is needed including working with the fire and police departments.
Route: Working on establishing the route including riding the route and investigating any problems prior to the race.
Public Relations: Working with local communities and spreading the news prior to the race.
Team: Ensuring the teams and cyclists needs are seamless.
Course Marshals: Primary function is to make sure the riders have a clear route and that spectators don’t get in their way. It’s all basic common sense. Marshals will manage crossing points, make sure cars don’t try to use closed roads and give spectators information when asked. You will be assigned a designated area along the race course to assist with the coordination and safety of the field of play for all race venues.
Fiesta Festival: Assist Tour Fiesta Staff with coordination: guide vendors and exhibitors to their tents for set-up; assist with Festival logistics as needed; assist with Marketing activities. Broken into Two Shifts (Morning Set-up and Load-in: 2 hrs.; Afternoon Runners/Activities and Breakdown: 2 hrs.)
Hospitality: Assist with set up/tear down of hospitality/expo areas and check-in at venues in start or finish cities. Individual must be familiar with host city and local government officials, VIP's, etc.
Start Cities:Assist with local Hospitality Tent decoration (flowers, table skirts, etc.), Work check-in (credentials); meet and greet local guests/VIP's
Finish Cities:Assist with local Hospitality Tent decoration (flowers, table skirts, etc.), Assist Tour Hospitality Coordinator work check-in (credentials); meet and greet local guests/VIP's
Media:
Start Cities:Assist with distribution of media credentials at Media Check-In.
Finish Cities:Assist Tour Media Operations staff in the media office; assist with credential distribution, serve as "runners," assist with general Q&A and office set-up.
Medical Control: Escort athletes to and from Medical Tent for post-race testing.
Security: Assist Tour Security Staff with access-control, including on-course, hospitality, awards, green room and press conference. You will be provided special Security Volunteer T-shirt.
Signage: Assist Logistics Crews with hanging and tear-down of banners: on-course, hospitality, etc. Broken into Two Shifts (Morning Set-up and Load-in: 2 hrs.; Afternoon Breakdown: 2 hrs.)
Volunteers Check-In: Assist local Volunteer Coordinator with set-up, check-in/registration and deployment.
